Up the Hill Backwards

2023 has been a mixed bag, to say the least. But as the year draws to a close, I’d like to offer thanks.

Firstly, thanks to all the booksellers and journalists who supported We Can Be Heroes, the amazing publicity team at FMcM Associates, the festival organisers who invited me to speak and the readers who read, rated, recommended or reviewed the book. Your support has meant the world.

Secondly, thanks to all the authors, poets and performers who took part in Polari this year, to Arts Council England for their continued support and to everyone who attended our events in Bath, Bradford, Deal, Edinburgh, Hastings, Huddersfield, London, Manchester and Swindon. We’ll be back on January 25 with Polari in Heaven and a stunning lineup you don’t want to miss.

Finally, thanks to my friends and family for their love and support during what has been a challenging

year. There’ve been times when it really has felt like climbing “up the hill backwards”. But as the “earth keeps on rolling” and we step into 2024, let’s tell ourselves “it’ll be alright, oh-oh-oh-oh!”
