On My Life

Jenna is being held in prison for a crime she says she didn’t commit. Her stepdaughter is dead and her fiancé is missing. The police think she’s responsible and even her own family seem to doubt her. How can she prove her innocence? And how will she survive inside a prison environment where the normal rules don’t apply?

Angela Clarke’s powerful new novel packs a real punch and has everything you’d expected from such a gifted writer. It’s unflinching in its honesty, driven by a strong sense of social justice, filled with three dimensional characters you care about and has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing right up to the final page.        There are plenty of thrills here but there’s real heart, too - one that cries out on behalf of the weak and the poor, the marginalised and the dispossessed. I think it’s her best book yet.
